Please do not hit and run

Just finished digging another hole to bury yet another dead animal. My garden, though huge, is probably running out of space to bury the dead animals as a result of other people's mistakes.

PLEASE! If you happen to hit any animal on the road, do have the heart to check to see if it is still alive. If it is, bring it to the nearest vet because it might have a chance for survival. If it dies, then please have the courtesy to take the effort to bury it. In less than one month, we have buried TWO hit-and-run cases.

End of last year, an Iguana was knocked and it was very badly injured. I stopped by the side of the road to direct the traffic so that no other car would roll over it. This was to buy time to put the Iguana into a box or pail so that it could be brought to the vet. A fast-driving jeep did not heed the hand signal and refused to turn to the side and so, rolled the Iguana flat and it died instantly. That was fate. It was already bleeding profusely that there was a high possibility that it wouldn't survive but it could have been pulled to the side.

Just 2-3 weeks ago, a pup was rolled over outside our gate. Its internal organs were everywhere. We exited the gate to this bloody (literally) scene just before we departed for the TV station. It would have taken too much time to clean up and we had no time. As we were rushing to go live, we left and when we came back by noon, the poor pup was flatter than ever. No one bothered to even help clean the carcass.

And just now, a cat was knocked right in front of my eye. The person responsible did not even bother to stop the vehicle at all. I pressed the emergency signal and pushed to the side a little so that the rest of the cars could pass, but would not roll over the poor cat. It was obviously struggling and I knew it was not going to make it. It died moments later. Had I not stopped, I doubt that anyone would even bother to push the cat aside or to bury it. Around week ago, I saw a dead dog on the highway. Cars rolled over its dead body time-after-time until it became absolutely flat on the road.

Imagine if you got hit and someone just left you there to die although you probably had a chance to survive, how would you feel? Even if there is no chance for survival, why leave the body there to rot on an artificial man-made ground?

Please. Have a heart. Do not just hit-and-run. Do something.

Love and light,
Genevieve
