Laughing Beauty
We met a 50-year-old Malay lady who works at the local supermarket. It is so easy to become so mesmerised with her appearance at the first glance. Although she was already 50, her skin did not show any sign of ageing at all. In fact, she looked as though she was in her late 30s.
Kak Ani is only a promoter but the vibrations she radiates surpasses that of any promoter I have ever met in my life. Her smile suggested sincerity and openness. She was not afraid to make mistakes. While we were passing by her booth, she tried to catch our attention by speaking to me in Chinese Mandarin. Eventhough she could only speak a little of the language, she did her very best to understand Mandarin since she was employed in February this year. Kak Ani said that she learned the language merely by listening to the Chinese customers talking around the supermarket. This is also the way she learns the English Language. Although she sheepishly admitted that she was not fluent in English, she also said that she was not afraid to make mistakes because that is how human beings learn. What very wise words...
Many people asked me how is it possible that I can speak so many languages. My answer is the same with Kak Ani's: "Never be afraid to make mistakes." Mistakes are inevitable. Mistakes are the very means to tell you what works and what don't. Practice makes perfect. If a 50-year-old lady can be bold to make mistakes in public, why can't our generation do the same? It is better to be laughed at once or several times than to be a fool for the rest of your life.
When a friend asked Kak Ani the secret of her radiant complexion, she replied that she does not use any facial products of whatever sort. Her only recipe is her grandmother's recipe - a carefree attitude, drink plenty of water and devotion to God. Kak Ani believes that as long as the mind is clear from worries, the effect will be shown on one's face. I agree with her on this. The body is so connected to your mind that the first signs of incorrect thinking will be visible on your body through disease. A sick body is a result of a sick mind. There is no need for any artificial product to bring out the beauty in you if you can cultivate that inner beauty.
This meeting with Kak Ani will forever be etched in my heart. Although she will often be dismissed as a simple woman by many, she was extraordinary in my eyes. One's value is not measured by one's possessions or appearance but one's character. Kak Ani was truly beautiful; not only physically, but mentally and spiritually as well.
Love and light,
Genevieve
