Genevieve's Quotes: Success

If the plan doesn't work, then change the plan, not the goal. Stick to the goal until it is realised. Nothing else matters.

External stimulus required to motivate one is not long-lasting. Motivation should come from within. Only when you have truly conquered your 'inner devils' can you stay motivated permanently. That comes from self-confidence and of course, as what I've said during my talk, DISCIPLINE! You must first know your immense power. There is no power without that did not originate from within. When you have truly grasped the nature of the Self, you shall have no fear and no reason to idle.

Reading books can only present to you the ideas proposed by the author. For some, they can motivate them because reading those books awaken a certain 'link', which would have lie dormant within them for a long, long time. Why do you think some books appeal to certain people while other books don't? It's about 'relating' to the book. When your inner negative beliefs have not been corrected, you will not be able to relate to the 'positive thinking' books out there. It may just be an 'aha' moment momentarily. But it simply cannot stay because you have not evacuated the negative beliefs yet. So start by releasing those negative beliefs and find your self-confidence within. Do not seek for any confirmation or aid from the outside world unless you are ready for it.

So many people I know, looking at other people's 'success', start developing the 'red eye' disease. They start finding all the faults they think the person has.

From the accent to the way the successful people dress, the people who suffer from the 'red eye' disease will just have something to comment. They will say that the person is arrogant, even though they may really just be self-confident. They may also be said that they are overly-ambitious, when really they're just being passionate about what they do and have set definite goals for themselves which they believe are achievable.

This disease affects no one else but the patients themselves. Successful people, instead of being critical of others by judging them, they busy themselves by enhancing their skills.

If you feel that your computing knowledge isn't as good as Bill Gates', don't sit down and brood about your inferiority of the subject. Why waste your precious time being jealous of him when you should be studying more to better yourself in that field?

Feel you don't have enough money? Don't brood about your lack of money and be jealous of those who have excess of it. Instead, focus on your work and work harder to improve yourself so that you can bring in more.

So you see, jealousy is the most useless emotion to have. It is usually adopted by lazy egoistic people; those who are full of excuses for their failures. They're not happy that others have achieved more than they did, but are unwilling to work as hard to reach that level. They prefer to stay in their cocoon of doom and try to drag the other person's name down as well just so that they feel better of themselves.

People complain that there are unfair opportunities available to each individual. This is nonsense. If you've done your research well, the most successful people are those who come from a poor background. They had far less opportunities than many do today. Yet, they are who they are now. The difference is those who are average are those who complain about the unfair opportunities available while those who are successful are those who busy themselves with achieving their goals that they have no time to complain about anything else.

Therefore, rid yourself of any trace of jealousy in you today. It's energy-draining and a sheer waste of time. Everyone's potential is infinite. Why be jealous of others when you too are given the very same power to determine your destiny; the mind? Use this wisely for it will be the very reason to your success or downfall.

Everyone faces challenges in life. No doubt there are bullies out there, whether in your school environment or work environment. I too have been bullied by the headgirl before when I was in highschool.

So-called injustices seem to exist everywhere. There can be so many reasons for people to become de-motivated and give up on life. What one must understand however is at the end of the day, you are the very sculptor of your own life. You hold the sole responsibility in shaping your life. Whether you allow others or circumstances to affect you is your own decision.

No one can decide how you see 'life'. No one can force you to think or feel in a certain way unless you allow them to. This is a gift given to you and you alone! At the end of the day, injustices only exist when you choose to acknowledge their existence. If you have the time to notice them, it either means you are not fully immersed in your actual goal in life or you do not have one that is worthy of you at all.

Why dwell on other people's foolishness? Set a goal that is worthy of you today and work towards it without being distracted. At the end of the journey, you are sure to emerge triumphant! Just like this young boy in the video, instead of brooding over his sad life, he re-channelled his anger and dissatisfaction to doing something creative. You choose what you want to be. If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or objects. As I said earlier today, each reality begins with a vision. Envision your life the exact way you want it to be and as your faith, so be it unto you

Today, I would like to tell you that man is not defined by history. It is man who creates history!

When I first started the academy, people around me either told me that no one would enrol for the course or told me that I would be operating in a loss for at least 2 years before business starts picking up.

"It's normal. This is business," they said with an air of absolute certainty.

Everyone tried to tell me 1001 reasons why the system I had taught to people overseas would not work in this country and why people would not enrol. They had tried hard to change my ways and pushed me to succumb to their suggestions to follow "precedent". Apparently, it is best that we follow what others have done before since stepping into unknown waters is deemed "dangerous". Nonetheless, I stuck to my principles and my ways because I did not open the academy merely because of the 'business'. No doubt we need to earn a profit in order to sustain the operation of the academy and the school and orphanage in India, but the crux of my intention in establishing this academy was to share useful information and knowledge with others for the betterment of mankind.

Although the first 3 months (1st term) were slow, we still didn't operate in a loss. Though not much, the academy still made some profit. After the 3 months, everything skyrocketed. We have tripled the profit made from the first 3 months and the figure is still going up.

The moral of the story is to never only listen to what others tell you and limit your life based on what they have to say. Always believe in what you have to offer. Regardless of whether it is a service or product, be it for business or a mere fulfillment of a task, you must first believe in what you do before others can start believing in what you have to offer.

If you are selling a product and you yourself have no confidence in the product that you are selling, how are you going to convince others that your product is good? Similarly, if you are a teacher and do not practice what you preach, how are others going to be enlighten by any wisdom you have to offer? Whatever you do, self-confidence is very important. There is a distinction between ego and self-confidence. Self-confidence is believing with 'substance' while ego is a mere show without 'substance'.

When you believe in yourself and others believe in you, you will succeed. When you believe in yourself while others do not believe in you, you will still succeed. The moment you stop believing in yourself, even if the whole world believes in you, you are bound to fail. Remember that.

Just because the whole world tells you that you cannot or should not do something, they need not be right. Listen with your heart. Listen to the inner whisper and decide for yourself if that is the path for you. Just because no one has ever done something before does not mean that you may not be the first one to do it! History is not what we should use to guide our actions but a reminder that it is man who creates history. Remember, history does not create man. Man creates history!

When your intention is pure and will is strong, you become unstoppable. Instil self-confidence, get out there and shine.

In our fast-paced society today, everything is instant. We are surrounded with instant commodities. We have instant noodles, instant porridge, instant photo, instant milk, instant health check-up results, instant improvement of study grades and the list goes on and on. Perhaps it is because of this that man is becoming less patient than he used to be back in the days of our ancestors. Man demands for instant results for practically everything.

Man can be so fired up when he begins with a goal. He resolutes to stick with it until it materialises. However, before the goal can even come into being, he gives up on it. Why? Because again, he expects instant results! When time seems to pass him by without any sign of the goal being achieved, he gives up on it and dismisses it as un-achieveable!

Everything comes at the right moment. Remember that. Be patient. You'll never really know whether the moment you give up on something, you could really just be a mere few steps away from the realisation of your objective. Persevere and keep marching forward. When you plant a seed, you do not expect a full tree to grow in just one night. Everything takes time and requires nurturing and love. Similarly, nurture your goal (whatever it may be) and you will see it come into being.

People often say I dream too big, I say they think too small. There is no mountain too high to climb and ocean too wide to cross. Even the sky is not the limit. The only limit there is, is your own mind.

When I was growing up, my father used to tell me, aim for the sky and you may fall on the tree. Aim for the tree and you may fall on the ground. It is true in a way. My father intended to say that there is no harm for one to dream big. If you fall short of it, your effort would still not be futile. At least, you still got somewhere.

Nonetheless, I still say that man is not confined to his circumstances. So long he surrenders himself to a vision he holds to dearly within, it shall materialise. As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. Do not be concerned with how high the mountain or tree is. Just start climbing lest you may still not be anywhere tomorrow if you are still trying to measure it from below.

When you're wrong, apologise. But Gandhi said that when you know you are correct I. What you are fighting for, never apologise. If you know that you're right, regardless of how big your opposing force is, speak your mind. Even if you're a minority, the truth is still the truth. Just be you.
